DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR A SENIOR PHARMACY TECHNICIAN

Secondment opportunity for 12 months - paid at current salary level (pro rata)
Location - workplace for this post will be flexible with some time spent in GPhC (London), Scottish Government, NES and within other relevant organisations across Scotland

NHS Education for Scotland (NES) is offering a career development opportunity in conjunction with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) and the Scottish Government to appoint a senior pharmacy technician who will be based in NHS Scotland but can be currently working anywhere within GB. The successful post holder will become part of the very first cohort of Clinical Leadership Fellows within Pharmacy in Scotland.
The post is full time (1.0 WTE), with flexible arrangements available for the base location in NES, and is an excellent opportunity for a senior pharmacy technician (currently working at Agenda for Change Band 8A or equivalent within GB) to expand their national leadership experience both within Scotland and at GB level.
Working with the GPhC in London and with senior Scottish Government personnel as well as other NHS Scotland Pharmacy leaders, and other key strategic groups and organisations, the JCLF-PT will be involved in taking forward the following key priority activity areas from both the GPhC and in relation to the recent Scottish Government strategy, Achieving Excellence in Pharmaceutical Care:
- Professionalism and Pharmacy Technicians
- Developing the initial approach to evaluation of revalidation
- Learning from Fitness to Practise
- Pharmacy Technician workforce issues and plans for Scotland
- Career framework for pharmacy technicians in Scotland
The JCLF-PT will also be given the opportunity to be supported within national leadership training and mentorship programmes.
Applicants should be highly motivated and working at a senior level in any sector of care within GB, have a good understanding of the NHS and professional structures and processes along with a sound grasp of regulatory functions and the Scottish Policy context. Excellent communication skills, experience in service development, and evidence of leadership skills, for example in engaging, motivating and influencing others at senior levels are also essential.
