Reporting to the Automation Manager, the Specialist is responsible for the design, programming, manufacturing, launch, and support of production equipment and utility systems. The candidate will also be involved in the technical aspect of projects and will be responsible for certain project management activities.
Provide automation support to project managers for purchasing new equipment, as well as improve existing equipment and processes. Act as an automation technologies expert.
Be in charge of programming programmable controllers, vision systems, operator interfaces, SCADA, databases and reports. Support all project phases, including the planning, estimation, documentation, design, purchasing, installation, training and validation of systems. Analyze the input and output and develop optimal solutions based on operational needs. Carry out start-ups and performance tests. Conduct follow-ups with internal customers to maintain continuous improvement.
Provide second-level support to technicians and operations. Detect and correct recurring problems and activities that should be automated. Create and document change requests related to automation. Draft and establish testing and acceptance procedures. Assist in developing concepts and control strategies. Develop systems architecture. Draft, update and monitor the application of standards, policies and procedures of the automation department. (Procedures, work instructions, standards: for drawings, programming, components and documentation).
| || Bachelor’s degree or College-level diploma (DEC) in automated manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, and automation engineering technology. Any other combination of relevant skills and experience.
Eight (8) to twelve (12) years of experience in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry.
Very good knowledge of ISA/GMP/GAMP standards.
Extensive experience in programming and configuration: PLC, SCADA Wonderware System Platform, Windows, ActiveX, SQL database, reports.
Very good knowledge of the components of the Allen Bradley and Omron family.
Very good knowledge of vision systems: Cognex, Keyence and Optel.
Very good knowledge of communications networks: Modbus, Device Net, Ethernet/IP.
Ability to analyze and modify existing PLC programs from various sources.
Excellent organizational skills. Results- and quality-oriented. Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Attention to detail, autonomous, thorough and focused on finding the root cause.
Fluency in French and English, both spoken and written.
Available to work on call (cell phone provided).
Available to occasionally work evenings and weekends, in accordance with project deadlines.
