To support AMECs growth, we are currently seeking a Senior Ecologist to join the Environmental Impact Assessment Group in our Montreal office. The Senior Ecologist will report to the Lead of Environmental Impact Assessment, and play a key role in the organization. He/She will act as a subject matter expert, participate in the development of new business opportunities, as well as support operations.
The EIA group currently offers a range of services to major clients in the Mining & Metal sector. This is a position which will appeal to a self motivated individual with a strong technical/practical background, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, and a solid work ethic, coupled with an interest in career growth within a recognized team of environmental specialists. Manage and conduct biological surveys with a focus on vegetation associations, plant and animal species and particularly those of conservation concern (including rare and endangered species), and weed/invasive species.
The ability to travel within Quebec is required.
Identify and develop new business opportunities and support the technical component of business development materials
Provide Task Management on projects and overseeing work activities and progress of assigned technical staff
Develop, implement and assess effectiveness of vegetation reclamation plans
Provide technical support in plant and wetland ecology, including study design, field programs, statistical analysis, and reporting
Supervise intermediate/junior ecologists in the design and conduct of field sampling programs
Oversee the quality control and analysis of data
Provide excellent customer service and a commitment to technical excellence
Participate in the preparation and presentation of training programs
Participate in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work
When required, work collaboratively with other departments within the Quebec office, other AMEC offices, and environmental regulators on project related work
Other duties as assigned
A Bachelors degree in Biology, Botany (Vascular Plant Taxonomy), Ecology, or other related discipline; a post graduate degree is a strong asset
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with expertise in Central/Eastern Canada area specific vegetation
Bilingualism (French and English) is mandatory, with excellent written and spoken language skills
Solid understanding of the environmental documentation process including impact assessment and mitigation
Current knowledge of SARA and CEAA(2012) and associated regulations
Experience working in adverse weather conditions, capable of working long, physically demanding and varied hours in remote locations. Experience working as a field team leader and following specific protocols.
Ability to work closely (both in a lead and support role) with other environmental professionals
Project Management skills are necessary, with an ability to track timelines, meet budgets and schedules
Demonstrated ability developing excellent customer relationships and developing new business opportunities
Proficiency with GPS, Word and Excel
