We are currently recruiting for a Anatomical Pathology Scientist to work at our Harrogate facility. This is a 12 month contract working full-time
The position is the first stage of progression towards becoming a fully qualified Anatomical Pathology Scientist. Working through a specific training programme, individuals will be trained in the animal tissue dissection, preservation and data recording on the full range of species used at Covance. During this phase initial exposure to animal handling techniques will be learned as a pre-requisite for future personal Home Office Licence Training Courses on animal handling and post-mortem procedures.
The role demands that the jobholder takes a step into assuming scientific duties for systems and procedures, principally in General/Developmental & Reproductive* Toxicology Necropsy with on call support to General/Developmental and Reproductive* Toxicology (DART) Necropsy, as Supervisor dictates, beyond that of their normal workload. The jobholder will also need to show a positive attitude, a willingness to take on new responsibilities and the qualities to work in conjunction with senior members of the department to maintain and improve the standards Necropsy have set.
Training may also cover the full range of animal species utilised within DART and large animal Necropsy. This may include technical processes from the handling of pregnant animals; caesarian necropsy procedures, and processing, through to full skeletal/visceral examinations of foetal specimens/tissues and seminology evaluations.
The jobholder will be expected to progress through the in-grade stages of Anatomical Pathology Scientist 1 by gaining and maintaining proficiency in appropriate selected competencies.
| || Typically BSc (Hons) in Biomedical/Biological Sciences or equivalent.
Possibly Graduate Membership/Full Membership/Fellowship of the Institute of Biology.
Personal Home Office Licence Holder (preferable but not essential).
Typically be able to take on legal responsibility of day to day animal care duties for animal holding areas.

Typically requires formal/in-house training.
