Senior Solution Engineer

Senior Solutions Engineer (SDN Solutions)
This critical role in the VCE Solutions Engineering team will have responsibility for providing expertise on various aspects of storage, networking and virtualization design solution offerings specifically on the Vblock. We are looking for an SDN Consulting Engineer who will contribute to the growth of VCE’s SDN solutions and customer adoption. You should be capable of high performance at all levels of technical engagements with Cisco/VMware SDN products, OpenStack / CloudStack, data center virtualization, and single pane of glass interface and automation, from providing an initial technical overview to assessment, design, deployment, configuration, and customization of the solution.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Hands-on experience with converged infrastructure technologies leading solution development efforts.
  • Technical knowledge of   IAAS, PAAS and/or SAAS solutions.
  • Provide solutions on VCE's SDN architecture, products, and capabilities
  • Evaluate data center and network infrastructure and operations and suggest optimizations as a member of a team performing virtualization and cloud assessments
  • Develop compelling prototypes and tools for SDN solutions, including tools used internally by the VCE community
  • Help drive the quality of VCE SDN solutions by contributing to relevant technical documents, certification programs and best practices guides
  • Take ownership of high-priority escalations and drive them to resolution in a timely manner in cooperation with relevant internal and external stakeholders
  • Actively provide feedback to Product Management and Engineering on ways to improve VCE SDN solutions
  • Understand OSS solutions and integration for enhancing our SDN solution capabilities
  • Provide solution and technical product presentations as needed
  • Work with product management and marketing to develop compelling market leading solutions.
  • Liaison with product management and solutions marketing on requirements and feasibility
  • Translate, transfer and disseminate acquired VCE solution knowledge to both internal and external customers through the creation of white papers, presentations and customer briefings   


Education and Experience:
  • Lead the architecting and building of end-to-end solutions and conducting the associated solution integration and validation tests.   Duties include producing guides for solutions design and implementation.
  • Support for selected Tier 1 and Tier 2 partners and advise on technical projects.
  • Work with product management and marketing to develop compelling market leading solutions.
  • Provide solution and technical product presentations as needed
  • Knowledge in Java, REST, Spring and relational and non-relational databases
  • 3 years as a technical consultant in data center technologies with ability to understand IP networks and routing
  • Experience in developing application using virtualization APIs
  • Solid networking background, including understanding of Switching, VXLAN’s, MPLS, BGP, and other common SP protocols
  • Experience developing and deploying solutions incorporating OpenNMS, XMPP, NetConf, and IF-MAP
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively to technical and executive audiences
  • Working experience with deployment, configuration and operations in any or all of OpenStack, CloudStack, VMWare vDirector or other cloud management framework
  • Hands-on experience with VMware, Cisco and/or EMC products and platforms including experience in installing, configuring, upgrading and maintenance of storage platforms highly regarded.
  • Experience working with VMware ESX/vSphere environments. VMware/Cisco certification is a plus. Experience in Windows, Linux, and system administration highly regarded.
  • Ability to multi-task without compromising quality.
  • Good customer service and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills.
  • BS/MS or technical degree in engineering, computer science or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of Data Center field experience in developing solutions.   

Other Desirable Skills:
Awareness of SDN trends and solutions
Understanding of DR strategies and solutions
Experience with design for large-scale datacenter operations
Experience working with VMWare solutions
Experience with migration of applications to the IaaS cloud
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work in a high-pressure environment.
