The Director of Human Resources (Dir HR) will have overall responsibility for the Human Resources function reporting directly to the Toronto Studio Managing Director. The position requires an individual of immense passion, ability and organizational skill to make human resources a competitive advantage that can be relied on by the executive team.  The Dir HR will be responsible for planning, designing, and executing HR services and programs that are aligned with functional business strategies.


The Dir HR will be able to maintain a strategic and high-level perspective of the company and functional objective and also take a hands-on approach in areas that need more tactical assistance.  The individual who succeeds in this position is one who will quickly assess areas that need improvement and prioritize issues to be addressed.  This individual must be capable of driving change, asking tough questions and implementing new strategies.




The main and routine tasks of the Director of Human Resources:


  • Lead the development and execution of the Human Resources strategic plan and shorter term plans and initiatives to support the business strategies and promote a unified studio culture;

  • Develop a strong vision for HR that will enable Ubisoft Toronto to recruit and retain the industry’s top talent;

  • Oversee all aspects of Human Resources including: benefits, personnel policies, performance management, recruiting, relocation, compensation, training, on-boarding and departure processes;

  • Align HR department goals with production needs to ensure that HR functions as a strategic business partner in the development of games;

  • Coordinate with Head office to ensure that the Toronto studio implements and influences global best practices;

  • Manage the fiscal budget as it relates to HR activities: approve human resource, material and other costs based on yearly HR objectives;

  • Ensure quality execution of organizational development priorities, especially staff development, succession planning and career paths;

  • Mentor the HR professionals within the local team to help them grow and evolve in their career;

  • Provide HR advice and counsel to executive leadership on HR issues;

  • Accurately diagnose organizational issues, develop solutions, and implement them;

  • Ensure compliance and maintain a thorough knowledge in regulatory requirements;

  • Build and maintain relationships with key partners at local colleges, universities and government organizations;

  • Develop tools to meet and measure HR initiatives;

  • Promote quality, safety, security and professionalism in all HR activities.




University degree in human resources, law or related discipline or equivalent training.


Relevant experience


  • Minimum 15 years’ progressive HR experience, preferably in a high tech, entertainment or start-up environment;

  • Extensive experience in strategic business and government relations;

  • Extensive experience in aligning human resource strategies with business objectives;

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and HRIS systems;

  • Membership to a professional corporation (CRIA, CRHA) an asset.
